Racing Incident Report

MAKE A MINT proved very difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, MAKE A MINT will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. SPLENDID SAILS was slow into stride. WAVY PEAK began awkwardly. From wide barriers, CARELESS WHISPER and MILLION CHASE were taken across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, BUDDIES SPIRIT was steadied when awkwardly placed between OPTIC KING which was giving ground and CARELESS WHISPER which shifted out. For the major part of the Straight, CARELESS WHISPER had difficulty obtaining clear running and after the 200 Metres was steadied and shifted wider on the track in an endeavour to go forward. Near the 150 Metres, NAMJONG SKY was crowded for room inside WAVY PEAK which at this time when giving ground got its head on the side and shifted in away from MAJIN BUU which also shifted ground. No action was taken. Prior to the winning post, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE, which was closing the race off fairly, was steadied when awkwardly placed between MILLION CHASE which shifted in and CARELESS WHISPER which shifted out. Because of this, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Just prior to the winning post, CARELESS WHISPER was steadied when improving close to the heels of MILLION CHASE. Because of this, CARELESS WHISPER was not ridden right out to the end of the race. In the Straight, MAJIN BUU hung in and proved difficult to ride. When questioned regarding the poor performance of OPTIC KING, F Coetzee said in his opinion the horse did not handle the All Weather surface. He said at OPTIC KING’s only other race start on the surface, it had missed the start badly and then failed to make up ground. D Whyte (BUDDIES SPIRIT) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said BUDDIES SPIRIT began well, obtained a forward position and travelled comfortably in the early stages, however, at the 500 Metres when under pressure did not respond, then in the Straight gave ground. BUDDIES SPIRIT, MAKE A MINT and OPTIC KING were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BUDDIES SPIRIT and MAKE A MINT after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, OPTIC KING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, OPTIC KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Following the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on PLEASURE PLEASURE at the request of Trainer A Lee. The Veterinary Officer said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. SPLENDID SAILS and MAJIN BUU were sent for sampling.
