Racing Incident Report

SPECIAL DAYS began awkwardly. On jumping, ROCKET AND GOLD was bumped by MULTIMIGHTY which shifted in. MYTHIC SPEED began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall, resulting in C K Tong, its rider, becoming unbalanced. BRAVO HORSE began awkwardly, shifted out and then lost further ground as a result of bumping the hindquarters of BAAZIGAR. Shortly after this, BRAVO HORSE was checked away from the heels of BAAZIGAR, then in the early stages proved difficult to settle. In the early stages, DELIGHTFUL WIN was taken across behind runners. At the 650 Metres, SUPER IDEAL was steadied away from the heels of MYTHIC STEED (C K Tong) which at this time shifted out. C K Tong was advised to exercise greater care. Making the Home Turn, MULTIMIGHTY hung out. Near the 200 Metres, PURE ALPHA was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of ALWAYS ZIETEN which shifted in momentarily. When questioned regarding his shifting MYTHIC STEED from a position on the rail to a three wide position near the 600 Metres, C K Tong explained he had been instructed to make his run in the Home Straight on the outside of horses as it is felt MYTHIC STEED is best suited when ridden in this manner. He said from barrier 1 he travelled on the rail along the Back Straight and when there was an opportunity for him to shift out approaching the 600 Metres, he felt he should do so as he was concerned other runners would commence improving around the outside from further back in the field and consequently resulted in him not being able to shift away from the rail as instructed. Mr C W Chang, trainer of MYTHIC STEED, confirmed the riding instructions issued to C K Tong. He did say MYTHIC STEED was shifted away from the rail sooner than he had anticipated, however, having heard the explanation of C K Tong, he considered his reasons for doing this acceptable. C K Tong was told he should avoid having his mounts cover unnecessary ground where circumstances permit. When questioned regarding the poor performance of CHINESE BOY BOY, O Doleuze was not able to offer any explanation. He said CHINESE BOY BOY travelled comfortably in the run and was suited by the strong pace. He said CHINESE BOY BOY felt as though it would respond strongly after straightening, however, when placed under pressure failed to do so. S Dye (BAAZIGAR) explained shortly after straightening he commenced to shift his mount out to take a run between ALWAYS ZIETEN and CHINESE BOY BOY. He said he was aware the tempo of the race in the early stages was strong and the leaders would give ground. He said in an endeavour to ensure BAAZIGAR had clear running, he felt it was best to position himself to take a run on the inside of CHINESE BOY BOY as that horse commenced to give ground. He said when he endeavoured to improve into this run, ALWAYS ZIETEN shifted out in front of him which resulted in him being awkwardly placed close to the heels of that runner for some distance approaching the 300 Metres. He did acknowledge after viewing the film that as he was shifting towards the run between CHINESE BOY BOY and ALWAYS ZIETEN, clear running presented itself on the inside of ALWAYS ZIETEN as a result of that horse shifting ground outwards. In the circumstances, no action was taken, however, S Dye was reminded that he should at all times keep his options open to enable him to improve his position where circumstances permit. SPECIAL DAYS and BAAZIGAR were sent for sampling.
