Racing Incident Report

MASCOT FORTUNE, which had been fractious in its stall and was standing badly, began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MASTER MASTER. Before being allowed to race again, MASCOT FORTUNE will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. STRIKING MASCOT began awkwardly. KEEP SMILING was slow to begin. Near the 700 Metres, MASCOT FORTUNE lost ground when following MASTER MASTER which at this time despite being ridden along was unable to maintain its position. After the 700 Metres, DANESIS was left racing without cover. On straightening, STRIKING MASCOT was checked and shifted in to avoid the heels of MASTER MASTER which was giving ground. At the 150 Metres, TELECOM OWNER, which after being crossed by JOLLY WONGCHOY, was shifted to the outside of that horse to continue in clear running. In the Straight, JOLLY WONGCHOY hung in. The performance of KINGSTON TEMPLE, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KINGSTON TEMPLE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the improved performance of JOLLY WONGCHOY, Mr Y O Wong, trainer of the horse, explained at its most recent start after having drawn an outside barrier, JOLLY WONGCHOY was wide in the early stages. He said because of this F Coetzee who rode the horse on that occasion made use of JOLLY WONGCHOY to go forward and lead to avoid continuing racing wide. He said as a consequence JOLLY WONGCHOY failed to finish the race off. He did say in the circumstances he felt the decision of F Coetzee was a correct one. He said today from the inside barrier JOLLY WONGCHOY was able to obtain a more favourable position with cover and in his opinion this accounted for the horse's improved performance. MASCOT FORTUNE, JOLLY WONGCHOY and TELECOM OWNER were sent for sampling.
