Racing Incident Report
CHAMPION PIONEER was withdrawn on 26.5.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetance). Before being allowed to race again, CHAMPION PIONEER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GAUCHO and GRAND STORE were slow to begin. KEEN TAKER began awkwardly and shortly after the start shifted out. For a short distance near the 900 Metres, GRAND STORE was steadied away from the heels of SHINING DRAGON. BUDDIES SPIRIT made the turn approaching the 600 Metres awkwardly, shifted out and bumped WILD ACE. For some distance after this, BUDDIES SPIRIT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CALIFORNIA HEART. Also making the turn near the 600 Metres, ISLAND SPIRIT became unbalanced when bumped by CALIFORNIA HEART which shifted in slightly. TRIUMPHANT GLORY, which was following ISLAND SPIRIT, was inconvenienced in consequence. At the 400 Metres, TRIUMPHANT GLORY was steadied away from the heels of ISLAND SPIRIT as that horse commenced to give ground. Passing the 200 Metres, TRIUMPHANT GLORY shifted out and bumped BUDDIES SPIRIT. Throughout the race, WILD ACE travelled wide and without cover. The performance of ISLAND SPIRIT which finished at the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ISLAND SPIRIT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, Y T Cheng (CALL ME CULLEN) stated the horse hung out in the Straight, placing him at a disadvantage in riding the horse out. He stated whilst he was able to vigorously ride the horse out hands and heels, he was reluctant to ride the horse with the whip due to the manner in which it was racing. He also added he was experiencing some visibility problems due to the kickback. When questioned, A Delpech stated GAUCHO was most disappointing having in mind the manner in which it gave ground quickly in the Straight. GAUCHO and WILD ACE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GAUCHO and WILD ACE after the race did not show any significant findings. GRAND STORE and CALIFORNIA HEART were sent for sampling.
