Racing Incident Report
At declaration time, Apprentice P H Lo was declared as the rider of both SUPER DANA and CAPITALAND. It was established that Apprentice Lo had a firm commitment to ride CAPITALAND. As such, the Stewards permitted Apprentice K T Yeung to be substituted as the rider of SUPER DANA. For this declaration error, Apprentice Lo was fined $2,000. TOFFEE began awkwardly. After the 1200 Metres, KING HOGAN was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FORTUNE WARRIOR which got its head up and lost ground when being steadied away from the heels of CAPITALAND which when proving difficult to settle was steadied away from the heels of PERFECT FEELING. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, TOFFEE was carried wider by CAPITALAND which when continuing to prove difficult to settle shifted out. Near the 400 Metres, GALLANT FALCON was steadied when awkwardly placed between CAPITALAND and FORTUNE WARRIOR (M Nunes) which shifted out when not properly clear. M Nunes was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Making the Home Turn, KING HOGAN was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of SUPER DANA. Shortly afterwards, KING HOGAN was again steadied and shifted to the inside of CLASSA WIN. Prior to the winning post, when improving into a narrow run between WEALTHY TREASURE and BUTTERFIELD which was shifting in, KING HOGAN bumped the hindquarters of WEALTHY TREASURE. D Whyte (BUTTERFIELD) confirmed the intention had been to have the horse taken back from the outside barrier and then endeavour to improve his position along the fence to race about midfield. He said BUTTERFIELD began well and when other runners on his inside also commenced to go back, he believed it was in the best interest of BUTTERFIELD to then go forward in the early stages as the pace at that time did not appear strong. He said after passing the 1100 Metres he was able to shift across and race outside the leader. When questioned regarding the improved performance of FORTUNE WARRIOR, Mr T W Leung, trainer of the horse, said at its recent starts when ridden by an apprentice jockey the horse had not been able to get to the outside in the Home Straight. He said tonight he instructed M Nunes to ensure the horse was positioned to make its run on the outside in the Home Straight. He said in his opinion it is this manner of racing which best suits FORTUNE WARRIOR. He said this accounted for the improved performance of the horse. TOFFEE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TOFFEE after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TOFFEE, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, TOFFEE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CAPITALAND was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, CAPITALAND was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of CAPITALAND was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, CAPITALAND will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FORTUNE WARRIOR and PERFECT FEELING were sent for sampling. An inquiry into the reason for CAPITALAND and FORTUNE WARRIOR being checked after passing the winning post on the first occasion was adjourned until the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 20 May 2007.
