Racing Incident Report
When leaving the Parade Ring, ROCKALOT, which was fractious, kicked out and made contact with a rail. After arriving at the Start, ROCKALOT was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. TRIUMPH, which was standing awkwardly and leaning against the outside of its stall, was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, VINCERE was taken across behind runners. At the 1300 Metres, MEATH was steadied when crowded for room inside VINTAGE GOLD which shifted in slightly when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MULTI KING. When VINTAGE GOLD was shifted out to relieve the pressure it was applying to MEATH, it then caused crowding on its outside to PILLOW KING and TABBRIS which was racing wide and without cover. After the 1200 Metres, TABBRIS got its head on the side and hung in. Approaching and making the turn at the 600 Metres, QUALITY-QUALITY got its head on the side and hung in away from SIR OCTAVIUS. After the 400 Metres, TRIUMPH was shifted away from the rail, then making the Home Turn was held up and unable to improve between PILLOW KING and SPICY HOT. Shortly after entering the Home Straight, TRIUMPH was steadied when unable to obtain clear running between PILLOW KING and TABBRIS which was giving ground. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, QUALITY-QUALITY was carried wider by CAPABILITY which shifted ground while hanging. CAPABILITY continued to hang out for the remainder of the race, placing M Nunes, its rider, at a disadvantage in riding his mount out. Over the concluding stages, CAPABILITY raced tight inside QUALITY-QUALITY which at this time shifted in. Also over the concluding stages, VINCERE hung in. For the major part of the race, SIR OCTAVIUS travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out. The performance of SIR OCTAVIUS was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, SIR OCTAVIUS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Nikolic (VINTAGE GOLD), 3rd placegetter, explained approaching the winning post his mount commenced to tire and when doing so got its head up and started to shift out. He said because of this he was at a slight disadvantage in riding his mount out. Apprentice H W Lai (TABBRIS), which was a last start winner, said because of the tempo of tonight's race he was unable to cross to the lead. He said TABBRIS' best performance is usually when it is able to dictate the race from the front and when it was not able to do so tonight, the horse was most disappointing. He said he was concerned that TABBRIS would not figure prominently in the middle stages of the race. TABBRIS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TABBRIS after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TABBRIS was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, TABBRIS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MEATH and QUALITY-QUALITY were sent for sampling.
