Racing Incident Report

Making the turn at the 800 Metres, HORACE'S CHOICE, which was travelling in a three wide position without cover, was carried wider by OWNERS LAD which got its head on the side and shifted ground. From on straightening until after the 200 Metres, SANBENITO was held up and unable to obtain clear running. Because of this, SANBENITO was not fully tested. S K Sit (SPARKLING STAR) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the winning post he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of MASTER POWER, causing that horse to be bumped, shifted in and be checked to avoid the heels of HORACE'S CHOICE. TOP SCORER, which was racing to the inside of MASTER POWER, was hampered in consequence. S K Sit was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 28 May 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 16 May 2007. Throughout the race, TREASURE RAIDERS travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. O Doleuze (TOP SCORER), which was racing first up from a spell today, said from a wide barrier in what was anticipated to be a quickly run race he was instructed to take the horse across behind runners to avoid being caught wide. He said in accordance with those instructions he steadied his mount on jumping and immediately shifted it across to race on the fence at the rear. He said in the Straight TOP SCORER closed the race off strongly along the inside and after the 200 Metres had some difficulty obtaining clear running. Apprentice C W Wong (TREASURE COLT) explained his mount travelled comfortably in the lead as anticipated, however, in the Straight failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion was most disappointing. He was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. TOP SCORER, TREASURE COLT and TREASURE RAIDERS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TOP SCORER, TREASURE COLT and TREASURE RAIDERS after the race did not show any significant findings. HORACE'S CHOICE and SPARKLING STAR were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported MASTER POWER had lost both its right front and right hind plates and SANBENITO had sustained a cut to its left hind stifle area.
