Racing Incident Report
WONG'S FAVOURITE, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 5.5.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right eye injury). Before being allowed to race again, WONG'S FAVOURITE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HAPPY FIT was slow to begin and was then ridden along to take up a forward position. After the 1600 Metres, ABLE KNIGHT was checked when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHEERFUL HEART. Some inconvenience was caused to CENTENNIAL SMILE which was following. When ABLE KNIGHT checked, it shifted out, causing GRABBIT to be carried wider which in turn caused inconvenience to HAPPY HEROES. After the 600 Metres, SUNNY RIVIERA was steadied and shifted to the outside of CENTENNIAL SMILE. From on straightening until after the 200 Metres, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was held up and unable to obtain clear running. After the 100 Metres, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was steadied when crowded for room between ELEPHANT DANCE and SEA TREASURE (E Saint-Martin) which at this time shifted to the inside of HAPPY FIT to continue going forward. E Saint-Martin was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. When questioned regarding his riding out over the concluding stages of PACIFIC ALLIANCE, G Mossé explained his mount received considerable crowding inside SEA TREASURE for some distance after the 100 Metres. He said just prior to the winning post SEA TREASURE was clear of him, however, the horse continued to shift in slightly. He said for that reason he did not ride his mount out right to the end of the race as he normally would. G Mossé was severely reprimanded and told whilst the Stewards are mindful of riders' safety, he nonetheless must ride his mounts out to the end of the race where circumstances permit. W M Lai (GRABBIT) explained from a wide barrier he had been instructed to ride the horse in front of midfield with cover if possible. He said GRABBIT began well, he allowed runners on his inside to go forward and then endeavoured to shift across to follow his instructions. He said GRABBIT was unable to obtain a position with cover and therefore was a little further back than intended. He said as a consequence GRABBIT failed to finish the race off. GRABBIT and SOUND OF SILENCE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GRABBIT and SOUND OF SILENCE after the race did not show any significant findings. SEA TREASURE, HAPPY FIT and CHEERFUL HEART were sent for sampling.
