Racing Incident Report
TIME SUPREME stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, SYDNEY EXPRESS was momentarily steadied away from the heels of LHOJONG which shifted in. At the 700 Metres, when the tempo of the race steadied, SYDNEY EXPRESS became awkwardly placed close to the heels of YOUNG HERO. As a consequence, SYDNEY EXPRESS was steadied and when this occurred, it shifted wider on the track, resulting in it travelling without cover. After the 100 Metres, LHOJONG was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of NORTHERNER. M W Leung (EQUATOR KID) explained he had been instructed from the outside barrier on today's track which appeared to be favouring horses near the lead to endeavour to obtain a forward position. He added EQUATOR KID had previously been successful at Happy Valley when racing in a forward position. He said accordingly he rode along in the early stages, after the 1200 Metres he did consider steadying to obtain a position behind CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN, however, when he did this he received a call from a rider behind him, he therefore felt he might have caused interference and remained racing outside CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN. When questioned regarding the poor performance of SHABU SHABU, E Saint-Martin was unable to offer an explanation. He did say today SHABU SHABU hung in which is not usual for the horse. He said in the Straight SHABU SHABU did not show its usual turn of foot and felt somewhat awkward in its action. Before being allowed to race again, SHABU SHABU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SHABU SHABU was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SHABU SHABU after the race did not show any significant findings. SYDNEY EXPRESS, YOUNG HERO and CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 7 May 2007)
SHABU SHABU, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SHABU SHABU was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer C S Shum this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg with a swollen fetlock joint. As previously advised, SHABU SHABU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again.
