Racing Incident Report

Near the 1200 Metres, DANESIS, which was shifting across from behind SUPER GENKI, was checked when crowded for room between ONE WORLD which had its head up and was over-racing and SUPER GENKI which at this time was being steadied to shift to a position behind TELECOM OWNER. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Shortly after the 1200 Metres, SUPER GENKI became unbalanced and shifted in abruptly when close to the heels of TELECOM OWNER which at this stage steadied. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SUPER GENKI hung out. In the Home Straight, BULLISH WIN hung out and close to the line shifted ground and made contact with TELECOM OWNER. When questioned, D Whyte (ONE WORLD) said the horse had proved difficult to settle during track work in the past. He said at its only other start in a race which was over 1200 Metres ONE WORLD over-raced when travelling outside the leader but was able to be successful. After discussing the manner in which ONE WORLD had been working and raced in its first start with Mr J Moore, trainer of ONE WORLD, it had subsequently been decided to work ONE WORLD behind other horses in track work in an attempt to have the horse become more settled. He believed stepping up to 1400 Metres today if ONE WORLD did not settle, it would fail to finish the race off. He said because of this he had been instructed from the outside barrier today in a small field to endeavour to obtain a position with cover as it was believed ONE WORLD would be able to finish the race off strongly when ridden in this manner. He said because of the instructions after jumping he immediately took ONE WORLD across to the fence behind runners and was able to improve his position to follow the leader, however, ONE WORLD proved very difficult to settle, did not relax and on a number of occasions got its head up prior to the 800 Metres. He said after the 800 Metres ONE WORLD travelled more comfortably and on straightening he shifted into clear running, however, the horse failed to finish the race off as anticipated. He said he believed this was because of the manner in which ONE WORLD travelled in the early stages. Mr Moore confirmed the riding instructions issued to D Whyte. He said as ONE WORLD was able to be ridden behind the leader during the race he was satisfied with the manner in which D Whyte rode the horse. He stated in his opinion ONE WORLD was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. He added it is his intention to alter the gear on ONE WORLD in an endeavour to have the horse settle. Mr Moore said depending on where ONE WORLD is drawn in its next start which may be back in distance, it would be his intention to ride ONE WORLD with cover. Mr Moore explained while it had been the intention to have ONE WORLD ridden with cover in the lead up to the race, he was concerned the horse would become unsettled in the parade which would indicate it would be difficult to ride ONE WORLD as intended. He said if this did occur consideration would have been given to changing the riding instructions. He therefore notified the Stewards of his intentions as the horses were leaving the parade. He did add he felt if his intentions were generally known, it would affect the manner in which other horses in the race would be ridden which could be detrimental to the chances of ONE WORLD. The Stewards advised Mr Moore while they are mindful of his obligation to his owners and understand the inexperience of ONE WORLD, it would be in all parties' best interest to ensure he relays relevant information as soon as it is practicable. ONE WORLD was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of ONE WORLD after the race did not show any significant findings. BULLISH WIN and TELECOM OWNER were sent for sampling.
