Racing Incident Report
ROCKALOT began awkwardly, bounded in the air and lost ground. GENERAL SPEEDEE, which was standing with its head turned to the left, began awkwardly, shifted out, bumped the hindquarters of TELECOM PERFECT and as a consequence lost ground. CLOVIS was slow to begin. At the 1000 Metres, VIVA FIGHTER was steadied away from the heels of LASER TIGER which was carried in by HAPPY SUNDAY (Apprentice K T Yeung) which had its head on the side and shifted ground when not clear. Apprentice Yeung was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, HEART TO HEART was bumped on several occasions by O'REILLY RALLY which got its head on the side and shifted in away from LASER TIGER. As a consequence of this, both HEART TO HEART and O'REILLY RALLY became unbalanced and lost ground. After the 800 Metres, REWARDING STAR was left racing without cover. At the 700 Metres, CASH MONEY was steadied away from the heels of VIVA FIGHTER which shifted in slightly. At the 200 Metres, CARELESS WHISPER was steadied when crowded for room inside HEART TO HEART which when giving ground shifted in. No action was taken. In the Straight, O'REILLY RALLY hung in and proved difficult to shift out into clear running. VIVA FIGHTER and CLOVIS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VIVA FIGHTER after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, CLOVIS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained a cut to the left front heel. Also after the race, it was reported TELECOM PERFECT had sustained a wound to the right front cannon. O'REILLY RALLY, LASER TIGER and KUNG FU were sent for sampling. Following the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on HEART TO HEART at the request of Trainer C S Shum. The Veterinary Officer said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HEART TO HEART will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
