Racing Incident Report
VALUE CHOICE was slow to begin. BUDDIES SPIRIT began awkwardly. BATURO began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MY PRIDE which knuckled. Shortly after this, BATURO was crowded for room between SURE JOY and MY PRIDE which after becoming unbalanced shifted in. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, BUDDIES SPIRIT got its head up and raced ungenerously. Near the 900 Metres, BUDDIES SPIRIT was hampered when racing tight between SURE JOY and WAFER KING which at this time was carried in slightly by GEM MASTER (E Saint-Martin). E Saint-Martin was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, BUDDIES SPIRIT, which was proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed outside the heels of ACTIVE VALOUR. Apprentice C W Wong (SURE JOY) explained as the horse was racing over 1200 Metres he was instructed to ride it in a position with cover if possible. He said he did travel slightly further back than intended because of the manner in which the race was run. He added in the Back Straight SURE JOY proved difficult settle. SURE JOY and BUDDIES SPIRIT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SURE JOY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. A veterinary inspection of BUDDIES SPIRIT after the race did not show any significant findings. PROPELLOR and MY PRIDE were sent for sampling.
