Racing Incident Report

FREEBIRD, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 13.2.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind). Before being allowed to race again, FREEBIRD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, TOY QUEST was very slow to begin. Near the 1100 Metres, WHIPLASH was steadied when crowded for room inside ADD THE FUN which shifted in momentarily. Then after the 1000 Metres, WHIPLASH was steadied away from the heels of ADD THE FUN (Apprentice C W Wong) which shifted across to the lead when not properly clear. Apprentice Wong was told to ensure he left comfortable racing room for runners on his inside. Approaching the 200 Metres, TOY QUEST, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, shifted out and bumped LAZY BUDDIES. In the Straight, SUPER HONEY hung in. For the major part of the race, GALLANT KNIGHT travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of ESPERANZA, D Nikolic said he had to make some use of the horse in the early stages to cross and travel one horse off the fence. He said throughout the race ESPERANZA did not travel comfortably underneath him and was inclined to lay out. He said in the Straight ESPERANZA failed to close the race off as he had expected. He did say at its last start ESPERANZA was also inclined to lay out, however, in his opinion the use he had to make of the horse in the early stages of tonight's race was not to its advantage. He said he was of the opinion from awkward barriers ESPERANZA may be suited ridden a little more quietly. ESPERANZA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ESPERANZA after the race did not show any significant findings. WISE LOVER, NOBLE HEART and WHIPLASH were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported WISE LOVER had lost its left front plate.
