Racing Incident Report
D Nikolic (MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP) was severely reprimanded for being late into the Parade Ring. Just prior to the start being effected, LUCKY DANSKE became fractious, as the gates opened lifted its front feet off the ground and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground, then in the early and middle stages proved difficult to settle. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, GOLDEN BALL hung out and after the 800 Metres shifted ground, causing some crowding to HAPPY GO LUCKY. Over the concluding stages, SUPER SNIPPETS hung in. S K Sit (SPARKLING STAR) explained the horse is not a reliable beginner and usually travels back in its races. He said today it was again anticipated that SPARKLING STAR would race in a rearward position. He said SPARKLING STAR began well, he rode his mount along for about the first 100 Metres to ensure the horse did not drop the bit and become detached from the field. He said he was surprised runners to his inside did not show greater speed and as a consequence he was travelling in a midfield position wide and without cover. He said near the 1300 Metres he stopped riding SPARKLING STAR along and when he had done this in the past the horse has relaxed and enabled him to shift across to a position with cover. He said today however SPARKLING STAR maintained its position and as he was wide outside THUNDER DANCING he elected to go forward of that horse. He said as a consequence SPARKLING STAR travelled further forward than was anticipated as is usual. W M Lai (FAIR WIN) said he had been instructed if he were able to have the horse begin from a wide barrier then he should go forward, however, if the horse did not begin, he should obtain a rearward position. He said FAIR WIN began satisfactorily, he rode along in the early stages and was able to obtain a forward position without having to make excessive use of the horse. Mr D J Hall, trainer of FAIR WIN, explained the horse which was having its second start for his stable today has previously had a history of not beginning well and as a consequence racing in a rearward position. He said he felt this was eliminating the opportunities for FAIR WIN, therefore he had made some effort to try and improve the horse's barrier behaviour. He confirmed the riding instructions issued to W M Lai and said as he was unsure if FAIR WIN would leave the gates cleanly he did not inform the Stewards of the change in riding instructions. Mr Hall added in future races if circumstances permit and FAIR WIN begins cleanly the horse will be ridden in a forward position. When questioned regarding the poor performance of HAPPY GO LUCKY, C Soumillon was unable to offer any explanation other than saying the horse raced impressively at its first start in Hong Kong and in his opinion might not have backed that performance up at the second time of asking. HAPPY GO LUCKY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY GO LUCKY after the race did not show any significant findings. LUMINOUS, CIRCULAR MACHINE and SUPER SNIPPETS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP had sustained a laceration to the tongue.
