Racing Incident Report

Shortly after the start, CARRIZO CREEK and FERRO BEAU which were slow to begin lost further ground when crowded for room between HE CAN TANGO which shifted out and FLY ME TO THE MOON which was carried in by KEY WINNER. Also shortly after the start, PRIME SCORE, FLASHING STAR and MAINLAND SHUTTLE were checked when crowded for room between CALIFORNIA LUCK which shifted out slightly and WELL NOTED which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of F Coetzee, its rider. At the 1100 Metres, PRIME SCORE, which was shifting in, was steadied away from the heels of FERRO BEAU. After the 1000 Metres, FERRO BEAU was steadied away from the heels of HE CAN TANGO which itself steadied. For some distance after this, FERRO BEAU was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HE CAN TANGO. In the early part of the Straight, PRIME SCORE had difficulty obtaining clear running when racing tight inside FERRO BEAU. After the 300 Metres, BRILLIANT TREASURE got its head on the side, hung out and was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of WELL NOTED. For the major part of the race, CALIFORNIA LUCK and FLASHING STAR travelled wide and without cover. The performance of KEY WINNER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KEY WINNER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. O Doleuze (HE CAN TANGO) said in the early stages his mount proved difficult to settle, however, relaxed after being covered by WELL NOTED near the 900 Metres. He said HE CAN TANGO then travelled comfortably in this position and he elected to remain following WELL NOTED into the Home Straight. He said after the 400 Metres he maintained his position behind WELL NOTED until near the 300 Metres when he shifted to the outside of that horse into clear running. He said HE CAN TANGO finished the race off strongly when ridden in this manner and in his opinion was in clear running with sufficient time to win the race. WINNING REWARD and KEY WINNER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WINNING REWARD and KEY WINNER after the race did not show any significant findings. FLY ME TO THE MOON and HE CAN TANGO were sent for sampling.
