Racing Incident Report
WIN PRACTITIONER was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, NICKU NICKU was steadied when crowded for room between FANTASTIC WIN and A PLUS FIT. For the major part of the race, particularly in the early stages and making the turn at the 800 Metres, VITALITY CHAMP hung out and as a consequence travelled wide and without cover. Passing the 800 Metres, WAIT FOR ME was checked away from the heels of WONG'S SUCCESS. Rounding the Home Turn, KIWI DASH and WAIT FOR ME raced tight due mainly to WAIT FOR ME shifting out to obtain clear running. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, FANTASTIC WIN was held up and unable to obtain clear running. In the Straight, SINOSPIEL hung out and proved difficult to ride, near the 200 Metres shifted ground and caused some inconvenience to A PLUS FIT. Approaching the winning post, WIN PRACTITIONER got its head up and shifted out. When questioned, F Coetzee (KINGSGATE GLORY) said because of the anticipated slow tempo of the race the intention was to lead. He said in the early stages he went forward on KINGSGATE GLORY and was able to cross to race outside SINOSPIEL. He said KINGSGATE GLORY did not travel well and he felt the tempo of the race was stronger than anticipated, therefore he did not continue going forward to cross SINOSPIEL. He said after the 800 Metre turn when A PLUS FIT improved around his outside, he felt given the manner in which KINGSGATE GLORY was travelling it would have required him to make too much use of the horse to hold A PLUS FIT in a three wide position, he therefore allowed A PLUS FIT to cross him. He said approaching the Home Turn he then shifted to the outside of A PLUS FIT to ensure KINGSGATE GLORY had clear running in the Straight, however, in his opinion the horse was disappointing in the manner in which it ran on. KINGSGATE GLORY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KINGSGATE GLORY after the race did not show any significant findings. WIN PRACTITIONER and SAFETY FIRST were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported WONG'S SUCCESS had sustained a laceration to the left hind heel.
