Racing Incident Report
COME HO CHOI and PIONERO were slow to begin. Near the 1300 Metres, COME HO CHOI was steadied when crowded for room inside PIONERO which shifted in momentarily whilst tight inside ALL OUR WAY. Rounding the Home Turn, BUDDIES SPIRIT was held up and unable to improve behind KINGSTON WINNER and inside the heels of CHINOOK. At the 150 Metres, COME HO CHOI, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of TABBRIS which was giving ground. Shortly after this, COME HO CHOI was again steadied when improving into a narrow run between TABBRIS and SUDDEN SPLENDOR which shifted in slightly. After this, COME HO CHOI was not ridden out in the run to the line when it continued to be awkwardly placed inside the heels of SUDDEN SPLENDOR. After the 100 Metres, KINGSTON WINNER shifted wider. Throughout the race, KING OF SHAVER travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight hung in. G Mossé (CHINOOK) said he had been instructed to endeavour to ride the horse without runners to its outside. He said he obtained a nice run on CHINOOK and the horse travelled comfortably, however, when KING OF SHAVER improved to his outside near the 700 Metres CHINOOK did not travel well. He said he did consider shifting out prior to KING OF SHAVER improving around him, however, in his opinion to do so at that stage of the race would have been against the best interest of CHINOOK. CHINOOK was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHINOOK after the race did not show any significant findings. Following the race, B Prebble, the rider of HAPPY GO LAGO, reported after the 200 Metres he felt there was something amiss with the horse and because of this he did not ride his mount out as he normally would. HAPPY GO LAGO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, HAPPY GO LAGO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have an intermittent dorsal displacement of the soft palate. ALL OUR WAY, PIONERO and KINGSTON WINNER were sent for sampling.
