Racing Incident Report
When being saddled, the stable staff of Mr P Y Yiu, trainer of GLOBE RIVER, had difficulty fitting the girth to the saddle with which Apprentice C K Tong, rider of the horse, had weighed out. As such Apprentice Tong was re-weighed with another girth. As the Stewards were satisfied Apprentice Tong had checked to ensure the girth was appropriate, no action was taken. SUNRISE LINING was slow to begin and then with the intention of being ridden forward was hard ridden, however, travelled wide and without cover. Apprentice C K Tong pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of WYNDAM PLENTY, causing that horse to be carried in onto SHANGHAI DELIGHT which as a result caused crowding on its inside to NATURAL MODEL which shifted in across the rightful running of RAINBOW EXPRESS and STAR PRODIGY, causing those horses to be checked. Apprentice Tong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 21 January 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 14 January 2007. In addition, Apprentice Tong was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. At the 800 Metres, WONDERFUL BOY, which was awkwardly placed, was checked when crowded for room initially by NATURAL MODEL which was carried in slightly when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WYNDAM PLENTY and TRIUMPHANT GLORY which shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of GLOBE RIVER. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 500 Metres, SUNRISE LINING became unbalanced when bumped by SHANGHAI DELIGHT which itself shifted out after being bumped by NATURAL MODEL which was carried wider by GLOBE RIVER. No action was taken. In the early part of the Straight, TRIUMPHANT GLORY had difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 200 Metres, GOOD TRIO hung in. When questioned regarding the poor performance of TIMBER CITY, A Starke said the intention had been to lead, however, despite his riding in the early stages TIMBER CITY did not show sufficient pace to obtain the lead and then after being crossed by other runners was reluctant to stride out. He said in his opinion TIMBER CITY raced like a horse which is best suited without cover. TIMBER CITY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TIMBER CITY after the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD TRIO and SHANGHAI DELIGHT were sent for sampling.
