Racing Incident Report
A BETTER DRAGON and NAVIGATE UNICORN were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, COULDN'T CARE LESS was steadied and shifted across behind runners, then after passing the winning post on the first occasion was again steadied and lost ground when awkwardly placed between A BETTER DRAGON and PILLOW KING. After the 1300 Metres, CHINA SPORTFIELD, which had been racing tight between OH GREAT and SIMPLY THE BEST, was momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of SIMPLY THE BEST which shifted in when barely clear. Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, A BETTER DRAGON got its head up when proving difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MIRACLE DRAGON. Prior to straightening, OH GREAT was checked to avoid the heels of CHINA SPORTFIELD which at this time was giving ground. On straightening, A BETTER DRAGON was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of MIRACLE DRAGON, then in the early part of the Straight had difficulty obtaining clear running. When questioned regarding the poor performance of SIMPLY THE BEST, Apprentice C K Tong said after having to make use of the horse in the early stages to clear runners to his inside and cross to the lead, SIMPLY THE BEST after the 200 Metres commenced to give ground. OH GREAT, SIMPLY THE BEST and COULDN'T CARE LESS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of OH GREAT after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, SIMPLY THE BEST was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SIMPLY THE BEST will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, COULDN'T CARE LESS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. JOYFUL YEARS and PILLOW KING were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted DOLPHIN STAR was making a respiratory noise.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 21 December 2006)
OH GREAT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. OH GREAT was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A Lee this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, OH GREAT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
