Racing Incident Report

REWARDING STAR began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost ground. SUPER FIGHTER was slow to begin. BUDDIES SPIRIT began awkwardly, causing D Nikolic, its rider, to become badly unbalanced, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room between SPICY HOT which shifted in and SPLENDID SAILS which was carried out by DR POSSI. Making the first turn, OBVIOUSLY got its head up and hung out. Passing the 1000 Metres, STAR OF FAME was steadied when awkwardly placed between NEW TRIUMPH and GOLDEN STRIDE. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, BUDDIES SPIRIT was checked when awkwardly placed between GEM MASTER which shifted out slightly and SPLENDID SAILS which shifted in slightly. No action was taken. SPICY HOT made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly. On straightening, BUDDIES SPIRIT was steadied and shifted to the outside of SPLENDID SAILS into clear running. At the 100 Metres, SUPER FIGHTER was checked when disappointed for running between BUDDIES SPIRIT and GOLDEN STRIDE, both of which shifted ground. No action was taken. Throughout the race, PROFIT HILL travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, B Prebble (NEW TRIUMPH) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position. Mr Y S Tsui, trainer of NEW TRIUMPH, confirmed the instructions issued to B Prebble and said tonight dropping back to 1200 Metres and racing at Happy Valley he felt it was in the horse's best interest to have it ridden forward. He said at the horse's last two starts which were at Sha Tin over 1400 Metres NEW TRIUMPH had drawn wide barriers and it was felt if ridden forward the horse would over-race and fail to finish the race off due to the anticipated tempo of those races. Mr Tsui was told to ensure where possible horses trained by him are ridden in a consistent manner. SUPER FIGHTER and SPICY HOT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPER FIGHTER and SPICY HOT after the race did not show any significant findings. BUDDIES SPIRIT, STAR OF FAME and OBVIOUSLY were sent for sampling.
