Racing Incident Report
SHABU SHABU was withdrawn on 23.11.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left hind) and was replaced by first Standby Declared Starter HONEY MONEY. VITAL KING was withdrawn on 24.11.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease) and was replaced by second Standby Declared Starter DR WELL (O Doleuze). Before being allowed to race again, SHABU SHABU and VITAL KING will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FANTUZZI and SYLLABUS were slow to begin. In the early stages, when being restrained to obtain a position with cover, WEALTHY proved difficult to settle. Near the 1000 Metres, HAWKES BAY was steadied away from the heels of DANEHILL EXPRESS (D Nikolic) which momentarily shifted in. In the circumstances, D Nikolic was reprimanded. Near the 800 Metres, LEILATI, which was racing close to the heels of HONEY MONEY, bumped the running rail and became unbalanced when tightened for room inside HAWKES BAY which itself was racing tight inside DANEHILL EXPRESS which again shifted in momentarily. Whilst the Stewards accepted D Nikolic relieved the pressure he was applying to HAWKES BAY, he nonetheless was severely reprimanded and told to allow runners to his inside comfortable racing room. On straightening, LEILATI became badly unbalanced firstly when endeavouring to shift out away from the heels of MAVERICK STAR and then shortly afterwards when bumping with DANEHILL EXPRESS as a result of endeavouring to improve between MAVERICK STAR and DANEHILL EXPRESS where there was insufficient room. For a short distance after the 400 Metres, TOM'S SIX was held up and unable to improve when close to the heels of DR WELL. A Delpech (SYLLABUS) said he had to apply pressure to the horse to maintain its position throughout the run. He said in the Straight SYLLABUS kept on one-paced rather than quickening as it normally does. He conceded there was an opportunity for him to shift to a position outside MAVERICK STAR prior to the 200 Metres, however, because of the manner in which SYLLABUS was closing the race off, he did not believe the horse would be advantaged by doing so and he felt clear running would develop between MAVERICK STAR and HONEY MONEY. He said at the 150 Metres HONEY MONEY and MAVERICK STAR commenced to give ground and when running did not develop between those horses, he was held up and unable to ride his mount out. He said at this time he was inside the heels of MAVERICK STAR and therefore could not shift to the outside of that horse. LOTZATOW and MAVERICK STAR were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LOTZATOW and MAVERICK STAR after the race did not show any significant findings. SYLLABUS, AGILITY and HAWKES BAY were sent for sampling.
