Racing Incident Report
ELEGANT KING PRAWN was withdrawn on 25.11.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (left fore suspensory ligament injury). Before being allowed to race again, ELEGANT KING PRAWN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, AWESOME DRAGON became fractious. AWESOME DRAGON was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. CARRIZO CREEK was slow to begin. BRILLIANT ONE was slow to begin, then bumped with AWESOME DRAGON. After this, BRILLIANT ONE was taken across behind runners to a position on the rail but at the rear. After the 1500 Metres, ESPERANZA was steadied to avoid the heels of LUCKY DIAMOND (Apprentice K L Chui) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Chui was advised to exercise greater care. At the 800 Metres, ESPERANZA became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside the heels of DANSOLDE. In the middle stages, PACKING HERO was left racing wide without cover. In the early part of the Straight, when closing the race off fairly, BRILLIANT ONE had some difficulty obtaining clear running. At the 250 Metres, LUCKY DIAMOND, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of CARRIZO CREEK. Throughout the race, RIGHT FRAAR travelled wide and without cover. Trainer C W Chang (SECRET OF KINGS) said the intention was to ride the horse in front of midfield with cover. He said at its most recent start from the outside barrier SECRET OF KINGS was taken back, however, today from a more favourable gate it was anticipated the horse would be able to obtain a position with cover. Apprentice C K Tong, rider of SECRET OF KINGS, confirmed the riding instructions issued. He said he had noted from viewing the horse's videos that it did not always begin well, therefore today which was the first time he had ridden the horse he rode along in the early stages to ensure it did not get too far back. He said when he did this SECRET OF KINGS started to race keenly in what was a slow tempo in the early stages. He said he therefore near the 1200 Metres allowed SECRET OF KINGS to go forward and cross to the fence to avoid racing three wide and without cover. He said SECRET OF KINGS failed to finish the race off when ridden in this manner. D Whyte (RIGHT FRAAR) was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of that horse. He said despite covering ground in the run, RIGHT FRAAR felt as if it would quicken after straightening, however, failed to do so. SECRET OF KINGS and RIGHT FRAAR were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SECRET OF KINGS and RIGHT FRAAR after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY DIAMOND, DISGUISE and DANSOLDE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted ROCKET WIN had sustained a cut to the left front cannon.
