Racing Incident Report

Mr P F Yiu, trainer of DEFLECT, second Standby Declared Starter, was fined $20,000 for negligence in that the horse had been treated with a prohibited substance after being entered for this race. This matter was not brought to the attention of the Stewards until after the official withdrawal time for today's racemeeting and DEFLECT had not obtained a start. AMERICAN VICTORY was slow to begin, then lost further ground when crowded for room between AMBITIOUS LEADER and RAINBOW EXPRESS. In the early stages, FLASH HARRY proved difficult to settle and near the 1200 Metres shifted out and bumped KIWI DASH. At the 700 Metres, KIWI DASH became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of ISLAND SPIRIT. For a considerable distance after straightening, FLASH HARRY had difficulty obtaining clear running. For some distance after the 250 Metres, KIWI DASH had difficulty obtaining clear running. At the 150 Metres, ISLAND SPIRIT, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room between GLOBE RIVER and KIWI DASH. For the major part of the race, MURCIELAGO travelled wide and without cover. AMERICAN VICTORY and MOONGLOW were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported ISLAND SPIRIT had bled from both nostrils
