Racing Incident Report

Prior to the running of Race 1, it was noted KING HOGAN had lost its right hind plate while in the holding stables. This plate was refitted. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. FANTASTIC WIN, which was leaning against the barrier stall, began awkwardly. Near the 1400 Metres, SNIPER was hampered when QI'S PET shifted out after being bumped by WONDERFUL BLESSING. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, SNIPER got its head up and shifted in abruptly when being checked off the heels of QI'S PET. A short distance later, SNIPER (D Nikolic) shifted in when not quite clear of FANTASTIC WIN, causing that horse to be steadied. D Nikolic was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Near the 1200 Metres, PURPLE GOLD was steadied away from the heels of SNIPER which shifted in when awkwardly placed inside the heels of QI'S PET which also shifted in slightly. No action was taken. For some distance approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, FANTASTIC WIN raced close to the heels of ELFHELM. In the early stages, KING HOGAN raced wide and without cover and passing the 1200 Metres was allowed to stride forward. Passing the 1100 Metres, FANTASTIC WIN got its head up when being restrained off the heels of ELFHELM. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, PRIMIATA got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of WONDERFUL BLESSING. Passing the 500 Metres, THREE CLUBS and WONDERFUL BLESSING came together on a number of occasions as THREE CLUBS shifted to the outside of KING HOGAN. Approaching the 200 Metres, SNIPER and AURELIAN bumped due mainly to AURELIAN shifting in. Near the 100 Metres, THREE CLUBS shifted out slightly, resulting in ELFHELM being inconvenienced. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WONDERFUL BLESSING, D Whyte stated his mount travelled comfortably in the run, however, came under pressure at the 500 Metres. He added passing the 400 Metres his mount was hampered when THREE CLUBS shifted out, however, WONDERFUL BLESSING was not travelling well enough to hold that horse in. He went on to say WONDERFUL BLESSING then did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure and in his opinion was disappointing. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PURPLE GOLD, S Dye stated he had been instructed to take up a forward position, however, PURPLE GOLD failed to muster any pace and despite his riding along raced near the rear. He added at no stage of tonight's race did PURPLE GOLD travel comfortably and in the Straight failed to respond to his riding. WONDERFUL BLESSING was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. SNIPER and PURPLE GOLD were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WONDERFUL BLESSING, SNIPER and PURPLE GOLD after the race did not show any significant findings. DOUBLE PLEASURE and KING HOGAN were sent for sampling. After the race, QI'S PET was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, QI'S PET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
