Racing Incident Report
WE'RE BUDDIES was slow to begin. ALIPES began awkwardly. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, OPTIC KING and A BETTER DRAGON were crowded for room inside DOLPHIN STAR which momentarily shifted in. No action was taken. After the 400 Metres, MY EGO became unbalanced when being shifted out away from the heels of WE'RE BUDDIES. At the 250 Metres, JOY AND TREASURE was carried wider by STEP FORWARD which after being held up and unable to obtain clear running was shifted to the outside of SIMPLY THE BEST to go forward. At the 200 Metres, A BETTER DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of OPTIC KING which was carried out slightly by JOY AND TREASURE. At the 50 Metres, A BETTER DRAGON was steadied when disappointed for running between OPTIC KING and DOLPHIN STAR which shifted in when giving ground. Close to the line, WE'RE BUDDIES, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SIMPLY THE BEST. Because of this, WE'RE BUDDIES was not ridden out to the end of the race. Throughout the race, DOLPHIN STAR travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, G Mossé (SABRE AND GOLD) said he noticed when reviewing the videos of the horse's previous performances that when ridden in a forward position it performed poorly and had not finished its races off. He said because of this at the Parade Ring he asked Mr C H Yip, the trainer of the horse, if he could ride it quietly to see if it was able to finish the race off. He said this was agreed and he rode the horse accordingly. Mr Yip confirmed the pre-race discussion with G Mossé and said he had been disappointed with the horse's previous performances. He said if circumstances are suitable he would have the horse ridden in a similar manner at its next start. DOLPHIN STAR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DOLPHIN STAR after the race did not show any significant findings. STEP FORWARD and SABRE AND GOLD were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported ALIPES was lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, ALIPES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
