Racing Incident Report
DARE TO WIN began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. VITAL PATROL was slow to begin. On jumping, FUNTRAP became unbalanced after being bumped by DRAGON HORSE which shifted in after being bumped by VICTORY WARRIOR. Shortly after this, FUNTRAP bumped RACING SPIRIT. Approaching the turn at the 600 Metres, PROFIT HILL was checked severely to avoid the heels of THUNDER FLASH which itself was checked to avoid the heels of GRASS HOPPER (Apprentice C K Tong) which after crossing to the fence in the lead steadied. When PROFIT HILL checked, it shifted out, severely hampering both SIR OCTAVIUS and RACING SPIRIT. Also DARE TO WIN and FUNTRAP were checked to avoid the heels of PROFIT HILL. Although the incident was one of significance, as the Stewards were satisfied Apprentice Tong had not restrained his mount but rather allowed it to steady the tempo of its own accord, no action was taken, however, he was reminded to exercise care at all times. After the 600 Metres, GRASS HOPPER was checked to avoid the heels of VICTORY WARRIOR which got its head on the side and shifted ground while hanging. No action was taken. THUNDER FLASH, which was following GRASS HOPPER, was checked in consequence. Shortly after straightening, PROFIT HILL was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of RACING SPIRIT. For some distance approaching and passing the 100 Metres, DARE TO WIN, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied when held up and unable to improve between VICTORY WARRIOR and GRASS HOPPER which were giving ground. In the concluding stages, VITAL PATROL, which was closing the race off fairly, was steadied away from the heels of GRASS HOPPER. Because of this, VITAL PATROL was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. PROFIT HILL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PROFIT HILL after the race did not show any significant findings. THUNDER FLASH and DRAGON HORSE were sent for sampling.
