Racing Incident Report
VICTORY TREASURE began very awkwardly and lost ground. WIN FOR ALL began awkwardly. BENEFICIAL was slow to begin. Approaching the 700 Metres, CARRIZO CREEK was momentarily steadied away from the heels of BENEFICIAL. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, UNIQUE SPEED hung out badly and shifted wider on the track, then in the Straight tailed out. The performance of UNIQUE SPEED was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, UNIQUE SPEED will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Near the 600 Metres, BENEFICIAL was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of CALIFORNIA HEART. In the Straight, DASHING WINNER hung out and proved difficult to ride. R Fradd (EASY) explained the horse's work leading into the race had been in his opinion only fair. He said today EASY was able to maintain a forward position, however, did not feel comfortable in its action and in the Straight gave ground. F Coetzee (CARRIZO CREEK) said the intention had been to have the horse ridden in about 5th position, however, the horse did not show sufficient speed in the early stages and as a consequence got well back as is usual. He said when racing in this position CARRIZO CREEK appeared to resent the kickback as it was racing on the All Weather Track for the first time today. G Mossé (GLORY YEARS) said in his opinion the horse's poor performance was attributable to today's track conditions. He said previously GLORY YEARS had been successful when racing on the All Weather Track, however, on that occasion the track was firmer than it was today. EASY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. CARRIZO CREEK and GLORY YEARS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of EASY and GLORY YEARS after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, CARRIZO CREEK was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. GOLDEN CARE, FAT CHOY FOREVER and HIP HIP HOORAY were sent for sampling.
