Racing Incident Report
CHEEKY was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (skin allergy). Before being allowed to race again, CHEEKY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALPHA MAIL was slow to begin. Passing the 1000 Metres, THISTLE KING was steadied away from the heels of LIGHT OF JOY which shifted to a position behind HAWKES BAY. Making the Home Turn and in the Home Straight, HAWKES BAY hung out. After the 300 Metres, Apprentice H W Lai, the rider of RICE FIELD, dropped his whip. Between the 200 Metres and the 100 Metres, ORIENTAL MAGIC had difficulty obtaining clear running. GOOD NATURE, which was following, was also not able to obtain clear running over the final 200 Metres. As a consequence, GOOD NATURE was not tested. After the 100 Metres, FIRM OFFER and DASHING THUNDER were checked severely when crowded for room between LIGHT OF JOY which was giving ground and BEING FAMOUS (Y T Cheng) which initially shifted out of its own accord and then shifted further after being contacted by GOOD NATURE. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied GOOD NATURE had contributed to this incident, they nonetheless severely reprimanded Y T Cheng for initially causing the crowding. Near the winning post, LIGHT OF JOY, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded for room between RICE FIELD and BEING FAMOUS which initially was carried out by HAWKES BAY and then shifted further away from that horse. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Throughout the race, RICE FIELD travelled wide and without cover. FIRM OFFER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FIRST OFFER after the race did not show any significant findings. FIRST AMONG EQUALS and SUPREME CLASS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported GOOD NATURE had lost its left front plate.
