Racing Incident Report
LUCKY BABY was withdrawn on 29.9.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory infection) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ZAVONE (G Mossé). Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY BABY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RED STORM RISING was slow to begin. ZAVONE began awkwardly. At the 400 Metres, RED STORM RISING was steadied and shifted to the outside of TIGER RIDGE. After the 400 Metres, TIGER RIDGE was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of SURE JOY which commenced to give ground. Over the final 300 Metres, FLYING TAMARI hung in and at the 250 Metres shifted ground and bumped ZAVONE. O Doleuze (FORTE) said he had not been issued firm riding instructions, however, he was told to have the horse travel where it was comfortable He said from a draw towards the inside he after beginning well took his mount towards the outside. He said he soon noticed GRAND SUPREME was racing to his outside and he endeavoured to track with that horse. He said after the 400 Metres he commenced to ride FORTE along, the horse started to hang in and as a consequence did not respond to his riding immediately. He said FORTE continued to hang in in the run to the line and closed the race off in his opinion fairly. Mr T K Ng, trainer of FORTE, said he anticipated the horse to be in a handy position. He said having drawn a gate towards the inside, it was in his opinion important for the horse to be taken towards the outside. In the circumstances, he was satisfied with the riding of O Doleuze. M Nunes (SURE JOY) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said SURE JOY was under pressure at the 600 Metres, however, did not respond to his riding. The performance of SURE JOY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SURE JOY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FLYING TAMARI, SURE JOY and FORTE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported SURE JOY had spread its left front plate. A veterinary inspection of FLYING TAMARI and FORTE after the race did not show any significant findings. GRAND SUPREME and LUCKY FRUIT were sent for sampling.
