Racing Incident Report

With permission of the Stewards, GOODY was withdrawn on 26.9.06 (family bereavement) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SHABU SHABU (Apprentice K L Chui). SOUNDS BEST, which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin. CAPE PRINCE was slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied when crowded for room between GREAT ACHIEVEMENT and EXCELLENT BOY which shifted in slightly. Over the concluding stages, SOUNDS BEST raced tight inside FLORAL PEGASUS. When questioned, B Prebble (WINNING REWARD), which was having its first start at Happy Valley tonight, said he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly from its wide draw. He said WINNING REWARD began very well, he took hold of his mount in an endeavour to comply with his instructions and took WINNING REWARD towards the rear. He said he was unable to obtain a position close to the rail due to WINNING REWARD racing keenly, was left racing wide and for this reason passing the 1000 Metres allowed his mount to stride forward. He said however he was unable to obtain cover and was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the race. WINNING REWARD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WINNING REWARD after the race did not show any significant findings. FLORAL PEGASUS and SOUNDS BEST were sent for sampling.
