Racing Incident Report
On jumping, JOY AND TREASURE was bumped by CHEERFUL HAPPINESS which shifted in. Shortly after this, JOY AND TREASURE and CHEERFUL HAPPINESS were checked when crowded for room inside SPEED WINNER (D Dunn) which initially shifted in of its own accord and was then carried in further by WIN DANCER (F Coetzee) which shifted ground. As the Stewards did not believe one rider was responsible, no action was taken, however, D Dunn and F Coetzee were advised to exercise care. Shortly after the start, HIGH PRICE was steadied away from the heels of STAR OF NORTHERN. At the 1600 Metres, NEW TAMAR was steadied when awkwardly placed between RENA'S WUNDERBAR and AMBITIOUS MARJU. After entering the Back Straight, NEW TAMAR and RENA'S WUNDERBAR were crowded for room inside CHEERFUL HAPPINESS which at this time got its head on the side and hung in. As CHEERFUL HAPPINESS shifted out to relieve the pressure it was applying to runners on its inside near the 900 Metres, HIGH PRICE was hampered. Shortly after straightening, LOK WAH TREASURE was steadied and shifted to the outside of TO SIR WITH LOVE to obtain clear running. After the 200 Metres, LOK WAH TREASURE was momentarily crowded for room between TO SIR WITH LOVE and WIN DANCER which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. After the 100 Metres, D Whyte (LOK WAH TREASURE) dropped his whip. In the run to the line, WIN DANCER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of NEW TAMAR which drifted in slightly. Throughout the race, SPEED WINNER travelled wide and without cover. C Munce (STAR OF NORTHERN) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said on the strength of its recent work he believed STAR OF NORTHERN would be a strong chance in tonight's race. He said STAR OF NORTHERN enjoyed a comfortable run, however, came under pressure at the 700 Metres and did not respond to his riding. STAR OF NORTHERN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of STAR OF NORTHERN after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of STAR OF NORTHERN was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, STAR OF NORTHERN will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. AMBITIOUS MARJU was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, AMBITIOUS MARJU, which finished tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, AMBITIOUS MARJU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NEW TAMAR and LOK WAH TREASURE were sent for sampling.
