Racing Incident Report
FIRST BABY and CENTENNIAL SMILE were slow to begin. Due to the pace of the race, in the early stages, BAAZIGAR, WONDERFUL WORLD and FIRST BABY proved difficult to settle. Near the 1100 Metres, SINOSPIEL was steadied to avoid the heels of WINNING FELLOWSHIP (S Dye) which shifted in when not quite clear. S Dye was told to exercise care. At the 300 Metres, BAAZIGAR became unbalanced when being steadied away from the hindquarters of SINOSPIEL. After this, BAAZIGAR hung in for the remainder of the race, proved difficult to settle and near the 200 Metres shifted in and bumped SINOSPIEL. Over the final 200 Metres, FIRST BABY hung in. For the major part of the race, SINOSPIEL travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice K L Chui (SINOSPIEL) explained in the early part of the Straight his mount hung in, he therefore turned his mount's head outwards to ensure it did not shift ground and cause interference. He said because of this SINOSPIEL shifted wider which enabled FIRST BABY to improve on his inside. S Dye said prior to the race he noted DARE TO WIN being given a strong warm up behind the barriers and because of this he thought the horse might go forward to lead. He said after crossing to race outside DARE TO WIN near the 1000 Metres, he did consider going forward of that horse due to the tempo of the race, however, he was of the opinion DARE TO WIN would have continued forward with him and therefore elected to remain racing outside DARE TO WIN. He said WINNING FELLOWSHIP travelled comfortably in the run, however, when asked for an effort at the 400 Metres failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing. WINNING FELLOWSHIP, FIRST BABY and DARE TO WIN were sent for sampling.
