Racing Incident Report
MURCIELAGO was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, MURCIELAGO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TOUCH DOWN and WE'RE BUDDIES were slow to begin. ALL FIT began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of FLAG FINDER. Shortly after the start, A BETTER DRAGON, which began awkwardly, was checked when crowded for room between ATHLETIC GOLD and KINGSTON GLORY which on jumping shifted out. In the early stages, FLAG FINDER proved very difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. After the 1200 Metres, LUCKY ENCOUNTER was steadied away from the heels of FLAG FINDER. At the 900 Metres, ALL FIT was steadied away from the heels of ATHLETIC GOLD which itself was steadied away from the heels of SPEED OF LIGHT. For some distance after straightening, WE'RE BUDDIES had difficulty obtaining clear running when awkwardly placed between FLAG FINDER and ALL FIT. At the 250 Metres, ALL FIT was steadied and shifted to the inside of RISING WIN which at this time was giving ground. For the major part of the race, RISING WIN travelled wide and without cover. D Whyte (LUCKY ENCOUNTER) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said LUCKY ENCOUNTER travelled well until the 600 Metres, however, afterwards he gradually tried to improve his position and the horse failed to respond. He said at the 400 Metres he rode LUCKY ENCOUNTER along vigorously and the horse continued to offer no response. When questioned, Mr D J Hall, trainer of LUCKY ENCOUNTER, which was only having its second start for the stable tonight, explained prior to the horse's first run for him which was over 1200 Metres, he gave the horse a light preparation. He said LUCKY ENCOUNTER ran well without a great deal of luck. He said because of this good performance he again did not work LUCKY ENCOUNTER hard prior to tonight's race, however, the horse did have a "soft" barrier trial in preparation. He said this trial in his opinion was only moderate. He did say because of the class of tonight's race, he felt LUCKY ENCOUNTER would perform well and he was not able to offer any explanation as to the horse's failure. LUCKY ENCOUNTER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY ENCOUNTER after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of LUCKY ENCOUNTER was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, LUCKY ENCOUNTER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FLAG FINDER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of FLAG FINDER after the race did not show any significant findings. KINGSTON GLORY and SPEED OF LIGHT were sent for sampling.
