Racing Incident Report
On jumping, ASALI got its head up and lost ground. SIKANDER began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of FLAMING LAMBORGINI, then shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between STAY YOUNG and FLAMING LAMBORGINI which was carried in by BUMPER BUMPER. Near the 1100 Metres, WEALTHY TREASURE blundered when awkwardly placed close to the heels of RICE FIELD and tight inside SELF FLIT which momentarily shifted in. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, RICE FIELD proved difficult to settle and then at the 800 Metres was steadied away from the heels of STAY YOUNG. In the middle stages, LUCKY GOOD DAY hung out. After the 400 Metres, SIKANDER was checked when disappointed for running between LIBERAL'S CHOICE which shifted in and LUCKY GOOD DAY which was giving ground. Also after the 400 Metres, FIVE GRAINS was steadied when disappointed for running between WEALTHY TREASURE and FLAMING LAMBORGINI. At the 300 Metres, SIKANDER was steadied when close to the heels of STAY YOUNG, shifted out, then at the 200 Metres was steadied and shifted back in when unable to obtain clear running between STAY YOUNG and FIVE GRAINS. In the Straight ASALI hung in. For the major part of the race, WEALTHY TREASURE travelled wide and without cover. D Dunn (SELF FLIT) said he had been instructed if the horse began well and he was able to lead without making use of the horse he should do so, however, if the tempo of the race was strong early, he should take a sit on the horse. He said SELF FLIT began fairly, the horse on his inside immediately went forward, he therefore elected to follow those runners across with the hope of obtaining a forward position with cover. He said however when STAY YOUNG held its position behind BUMPER BUMPER, he was left racing three wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of FIVE GRAINS, D Whyte said the horse travelled comfortably in the run, however, in the Straight appeared reluctant to take runs between horses. He said in the past he had ridden FIVE GRAINS and the horse had finished strongly when making runs between horses and he was unable to offer any explanation for the horse failing to respond to his riding in the Straight today. FIVE GRAINS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FIVE GRAINS after the race did not show any significant findings. RICE FIELD and FLAMING LAMBORGINI were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported LUCKY GOOD DAY had bled from both nostrils.
