Racing Incident Report
CIRCULAR MACHINE was withdrawn on 11.3.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore foot) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GOLDEN STRIDE (A Delpech). Before being allowed to race again, CIRCULAR MACHINE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLDEN STRIDE began awkwardly. TOP STITCH was a little slow to begin. Shortly after the start, LIVERPOOLTHEGREAT was bumped by AMERICAN VICTORY which shifted out after brushing with MODERN INTEREST. Near the 900 Metres, A Delpech adjusted his goggles. Near the 300 Metres, MODERN INTEREST was steadied to avoid the heels of LIBERAL'S RIDE (G Schofield) which after having difficulty obtaining clear running was shifted to the inside of OBVIOUSLY when not clear of MODERN INTEREST. For some distance after this, LIBERAL'S RIDE was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of OBVIOUSLY. G Schofield was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care. F Coetzee (MODERN INTEREST) explained throughout the race his mount hung out badly, over the concluding stages because of this he was not able to ride MODERN INTEREST out as he would have wished as in his opinion to have done so would have allowed the horse to shift ground and cause interference to other runners. The racing manner of MODERN INTEREST was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, MODERN INTEREST will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial. C Brown (MARS), which performed poorly, explained today the horse began well and travelled comfortably in the early stages. He said however as the race progressed MARS was not able to maintain its position and in his opinion was not comfortable racing amongst other runners as at its first start it at all times had clear running. He said MARS commenced to make some ground approaching the 200 Metres, however, shortly afterwards he steadied to avoid the heels of MODERN INTEREST which shifted out. He said after this he did not ride MARS out to the line as in his opinion it was well beaten. He added MARS raced in a manner which indicated to him that it would now be suited racing over a distance of further than the 1000 Metres of today's race. MARS and MODERN INTEREST were sent for an official veterinary inspection. TOP STITCH was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of MARS, MODERN INTEREST and TOP STITCH after the race did not show any significant findings. FLYING TAMARI and PLEZAYRE were sent for sampling.
