Racing Incident Report
LUCKY BIRD, WE'RE BUDDIES, NEW CENTURY and SPEED WINNER were slow to begin. SWEETIE began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was bumped by HENNESSY DAYS which shifted out after being bumped by JOY AND TREASURE. After the 1600 Metres, WE'RE BUDDIES was steadied away from the heels of RED FORTUNE. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, SWEETIE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of RISING WIN. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, JOY AND TREASURE was steadied away from the heels of DASH FOR VICTORIES which itself was steadied away from the heels of JUSTINIAN. From the 400 Metres until near the 200 Metres, JOY AND TREASURE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DASH FOR VICTORIES and unable to improve. At the 100 Metres, JOY AND TREASURE, which was hanging in, was steadied and shifted to the outside of RISING WIN into clear running. Also at the 100 Metres, DASH FOR VICTORIES was bumped by WISHING WELL which was carried wider by JUSTINIAN which shifted ground when improving on its inside. In the Straight, SWEETIE hung out. B Prebble (WISHING WELL) said prior to the race he had been told by Mr T K Ng, trainer of the horse, that in his opinion the horse had gone too quickly in the lead at its last start and consequently was beaten by a narrow margin. He said therefore today from a wide barrier he had been instructed to go forward without making too much use of the horse and if this meant sitting off the leader that was acceptable. He added when the horse was last successful it had led when carrying a light weight and tonight the horse was up considerably in weight. He said WISHING WELL began well, he went forward and crossed to race outside JUSTINIAN, then when SPEED WINNER improved around his outside approaching the 1200 Metres, he allowed that horse to go forward and cross to the fence. He said WISHING WELL travelled comfortably in the run and relaxed nicely for him, however, in the Straight the horse did not quicken as he had hoped and gave ground from the 200 Metres. WISHING WELL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, WISHING WELL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was noted to have a nasal discharge (mucopus), however, he was unable to perform an endoscopic examination. Before being allowed to race again, WISHING WELL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JOY AND TREASURE, SPEED WINNER and SWEETIE were sent for sampling.
