Racing Incident Report

FIVE GRAINS was slow to begin. In the early stages, TRIUMPHANT UNICORN proved difficult to settle. Approaching the 800 Metres, WEALTHY TREASURE got its head up when racing ungenerously. For some distance after the 400 Metres, ORIENTAL MAGIC was held up and unable to improve when racing behind MY CHOICE which itself was unable to improve when racing behind TRIUMPHANT UNICORN. From the 300 Metres until near the 200 Metres, FIRM OFFER was held up and unable to improve when racing behind SIROCCO and inside GEM OF INDIA. From the 300 Metres until near the 100 Metres, BUMPER BUMPER was held up and unable to improve when racing behind KINDACROSS and BOBO WIN. Near the 200 Metres, EXPECTATIONS, which was closing the race off fairly, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of BUMPER BUMPER to continue going forward. After the 200 Metres, MY CHOICE was bumped by TRIUMPHANT UNICORN which shifted in. At the 150 Metres, WEALTHY TREASURE was checked to avoid the heels of SIROCCO (Apprentice H W Lai) which shifted in. Apprentice Lai was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. After the 100 Metres, INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS was steadied and shifted to the outside of the heels of KINDACROSS which was giving ground. For the major part of the race, SIROCCO and WHATABOB raced wide and without cover. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied the riding of C Soumillon (BOBO WIN) did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless told he must ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the winning post where circumstances permit. MY CHOICE, ORIENTAL MAGIC and FIRM OFFER were sent for sampling.
