Racing Incident Report
Before being presented in the Parade Ring, an adjustment was made to the right front plate of TAIJI SPIRIT. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On jumping, SAND DANCE stumbled and lost ground. SHERIFF BAMBOO was slow to begin, then shortly afterwards got its head up, bounded in the air and lost further ground. SILVERBIRD was slow to begin and then lost further ground when being steadied away from the heels of TAIJI SPIRIT which began awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 900 Metres, HIP HIP HOORAY and SAND DANCE raced tight inside HELENE ELEGANCE. Approaching the turn at the 700 Metres, LUCKY DANSKE and GRAND FIGHTER raced tight inside MASTER YING which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, LUCKY DANSKE got its head on the side, shifted out and was severely checked to avoid the heels of GRAND FIGHTER. TAIJI SPIRIT, which was following, was checked to avoid the heels of LUCKY DANSKE. HIP HIP HOORAY and SAND DANCE, which were also following, were hampered and carried wider. After this, LUCKY DANSKE continued to hang out. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, FLYING KENNY hung out. Making the Home Turn, HIP HIP HOORAY hung out. In the Straight, SUPER PRINCE hung out. When questioned regarding his riding out of TAIJI SPIRIT over the final strides, C Munce explained the horse which was having its first start from a spell tonight was getting tired under its large weight, as a consequence got its head on the side and shifted in towards GRAND FIGHTER which was shifting out towards him. He said because of this he endeavoured to straighten TAIJI SPIRIT with his left hand and because of the close proximity of GRAND FIGHTER he was restricted in the use of his whip. The explanation submitted by C Munce was accepted. HIP HIP HOORAY and SAND DANCE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, HIP HIP HOORAY and SAND DANCE were examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HIP HIP HOORAY and SAND DANCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Due to a misunderstanding, an incorrect public announcement was made that HIP HIP HOORAY and SAND DANCE had bled from both nostrils. TAIJI SPIRIT, HELENE ELEGANCE and SUPER PRINCE were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported LUCKY DANSKE had sustained abrasions to both hind legs.
