Racing Incident Report
PERFECT PARTNER, which was standing with its head turned to the left, began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of HELENE PILLAGING. BEST GIFT was slow to begin. Near the 1200 Metres, BEST GIFT got its head up and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of THE DUKE. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, SATURN got its head on the side and shifted in away from THE DUKE. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 300 Metres, SUPER KID was held up and unable to improve. Close to the finish, PERFECT PARTNER and HELENE PILLAGING bumped. In the Straight, WEALTHY hung out. C Soumillon (DAVE'S BEST) said prior to the race he had spoken with Mr C H Yip, trainer of the horse, and it had been decided having in mind the 1000 Metre races which had been run earlier in the day showed the outside rail of the course to be quicker than the inside that DAVE'S BEST should be ridden in a rearward position as normal, then in the Straight shifted wide on the track to close the race off. He said in the past DAVE'S BEST had shown a tendency to hang in when racing outside other horses. He said because of the manner in which the race was run, rounding the Home Turn the field bunched up and it became apparent to him that a number of runners would make their run at the same time, he therefore on straightening immediately commenced to shift DAVE'S BEST out to the outside rail and whilst this manoeuvre might have cost DAVE'S BEST some ground, he believed after reaching the outside fence near the 300 Metres, DAVE'S BEST then raced in superior ground and was able to take ground off other runners in the run to the line. Mr Yip confirmed the riding instructions issued to C Soumillon and that in the Parade Ring it was decided the ground wider on the track appeared faster than towards the inside and he expressed his satisfaction with the manner in which DAVE'S BEST was ridden. C Soumillon was told his explanation would be reported. BULLISH LUCK was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of BULLISH LUCK after the race did not show any significant findings. GREEN TREASURE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, GREEN TREASURE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GREEN TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RUSSIAN PEARL and BEST GIFT were sent for sampling.
