Racing Incident Report
As G Schofield, the declared rider of SIMPLY THE BEST, was overweight, permission was given for Y T Cheng to be substituted. For accepting this ride when overweight, G Schofield was fined $4,000 [Rule 88(5)]. LUCKY GUYS was slow to begin. On jumping, MEDIC LEGION was bumped by GOOD VIEW SUCCESS which shifted in. Also on jumping, FEBURO and SUPER SPECIAL bumped. Shortly after the start, LUCKY GUYS, GOOD TRIO and EAST OCEAN DRAGON lost ground after bumping as a result of being hampered when carried out by RED WINE SUPREME which on jumping was carried wider by JADE DANCER. In the early stages, SUPER SPECIAL proved difficult to settle. At the 800 Metres, LUCKY GUYS was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of EAST OCEAN DRAGON. After the 600 Metres, GOOD VIEW SUCCESS was steadied away from the heels of FEBURO which itself was over-racing and close to the heels of SIMPLY THE BEST. At the 500 Metres, MEDIC LEGION was steadied away from the heels of SUPER SPECIAL which at this time was reluctant to hold its position inside RED WINE SUPREME. Prior to straightening, GOOD TRIO was steadied away from the heels of MEDIC LEGION, then after straightening was again steadied and shifted in to obtain clear running. On straightening, SIMPLY THE BEST was awkwardly placed inside SHINING DRAGON which at this time got its head on the side and hung in. In the early part of the Straight, MEDIC LEGION was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PROPELLOR. At the 300 Metres, FEBURO was steadied and shifted in when close to the heels of SHINING DRAGON which was commencing to give ground. At the 200 Metres, GOOD VIEW SUCCESS was tightened for room inside FEBURO which got its head on the side and hung in away from SHINING DRAGON which itself shifted in slightly while continuing to hang. After the 100 Metres, GOOD VIEW SUCCESS, which had been held up, was shifted to the outside of SIMPLY THE BEST in an endeavour to find clear running and prior to the winning post was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of RED WINE SUPREME. As a consequence, GOOD VIEW SUCCESS was not able to be fully tested. R Fradd (JADE DANCER) said the horse proved very difficult to settle in the early stages, then at the 800 Metres relaxed underneath him, however, in the Straight did not close the race off as he would have hoped. JADE DANCER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, JADE DANCER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, JADE DANCER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RED WINE SUPREME and SIMPLY THE BEST were sent for sampling.
