Racing Incident Report
WAVY PEAK was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, A BETTER DRAGON was crowded for room between THE FACULTY and NOBLE VICTORY. From the outside barrier, CAPABEL was taken across behind runners to a position on the rail. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, A BETTER DRAGON was crowded for room between THE FACULTY and NOBLE VICTORY which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in away from BAYVIEW LAD. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, MILLENNIUM SUPREME was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of KID GALAXY which shifted in slightly when not properly clear. In the early stages, A BETTER DRAGON proved difficult to settle. Near the 1400 Metres, MILLENNIUM SUPREME, which had been hard ridden to maintain its position, was steadied to avoid the heels of LUCKY ENCOUNTER which shifted in when barely clear. Near the 1300 Metres, THE FACULTY was steadied when awkwardly placed between MILLENNIUM SUPREME and A BETTER DRAGON. After the 1300 Metres, when left racing wide without cover, NOBLE VICTORY was allowed to stride forward and cross to race outside the lead. At the 1100 Metres, MILLENNIUM SUPREME was steadied away from the heels of KID GALAXY which itself was steadied away from the heels of NOBLE VICTORY. Prior to straightening, WAVY PEAK became unbalanced after making contact with the running rail. Making the Home Turn and in the Straight, THE FACULTY hung in, after the 400 Metres and again at the 200 Metres shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of A BETTER DRAGON. Also making the Home Turn and in the Straight, NOBLE VICTORY hung out. At the winning post, WAVY PEAK was steadied when awkwardly placed between BAYVIEW LAD and LUCKY ENCOUNTER. For the major part of the race, ATHLETIC GOLD raced wide and without cover. K S Yu (EXCELLENT DAY) explained the horse strode out freely during its preliminary. He said when the gates opened EXCELLENT DAY was slow to begin and was reluctant to stride out, then shortly afterwards when CAPABEL shifted in from its outside, EXCELLENT DAY refused to stretch out, commenced to attempt to buck and as such he retired the horse from the race. Before being allowed to race again, EXCELLENT DAY will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. A Delpech (KID GALAXY) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said KID GALAXY travelled comfortably in the run, however, when asked for an effort after straightening failed to respond to his riding and hung in as it normally does. KID GALAXY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. EXCELLENT DAY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of KID GALAXY and EXCELLENT DAY after the race did not show any significant findings. CAPABEL and LUCKY ENCOUNTER were sent for sampling.
