Racing Incident Report

TOUCH DOWN was slow to begin. When the gates opened, FANTASTIC WIN bounded in the air and lost ground. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, LUCKY CORDELIA was steadied and shifted to a position behind GLORIOUS RHYTHM. AWARD, which was following, was momentarily steadied away from LUCKY CORDELIA. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, LUCKY STALLION hung out. In the early part of the Straight, CHINOOK had difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 200 Metres, LUCKY CORDELIA, which was hanging in, became unbalanced and was steadied when crowded for room between JUBILOSO which in the Straight hung in and TOUCH DOWN (W M Lai) which was shifting out to obtain clear running when not properly clear. W M Lai was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise greater care. Over about the final 100 Metres, AWARD was not ridden out when held up and unable to improve initially between PROPELLOR and LUCKY STALLION and then behind LUCKY STALLION. Because of this, AWARD was not fully tested. After the 50 Metres, E Saint-Martin (PROPELLOR) had the whip knocked from his hand by the whip of B Prebble (LUCKY STALLION). Just prior to the winning post, CHINOOK was steadied to avoid the heels of TOUCH DOWN which became unbalanced when placed inside the heels of JUBILOSO which when continuing to hang in shifted some ground. JUBILOSO, GLORIOUS RHYTHM and LUCKY STALLION were sent for sampling.
