Racing Incident Report
OBVIOUSLY was slow to begin and then lost further ground when crowded for room between MAINLAND MASTER and SUNRISE LINING which began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the inside gate of its stall. TO THE POINT was slow to begin. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, TO THE POINT, which was racing greenly, was checked away from the heels of SUNRISE LINING. In the early stages, AMBITION after beginning well proved difficult to settle. At the 700 Metres, ETERNAL DRAGON was bumped by OBVIOUSLY which shifted out. OBVIOUSLY made the Home Turn awkwardly and was placed close to the heels of LEADER. Over the final 300 Metres, LEADER hung out. Because of this, D Whyte, its rider, changed the whip into his left hand. Throughout the race, TROPHY raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. E Saint-Martin (MUTUAL GAIN), which had drawn the outside barrier, said the intention had been to ride the horse with cover if possible around midfield. He said it is believed MUTUAL GAIN races best with cover. He said MUTUAL GAIN began well, runners to his inside went forward and as such he was not able to obtain a position in about midfield and when racing wide and without cover making the turn at the 800 Metres, he elected to come back and follow MAINLAND MASTER. He said as a consequence MUTUAL GAIN raced further back than anticipated. He did say MUTUAL GAIN finished the race off fairly, however, in his opinion the horse will be better suited racing over distances of further than the 1200 Metres of today's race. TROPHY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TROPHY after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPREME CLASS and LEADER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 3 January 2006)
TROPHY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. TROPHY was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer S Woods yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be mildly lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, TROPHY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
