Racing Incident Report
G Mossé (NORTHERNER) was fined $2,000 for presenting himself to weigh out to ride 2 lbs over the horse's allocated weight [Rule 82(3)]. As G Mossé is a stable retained rider, permission was given for him to fulfil the riding engagement in accordance with the usual practice. NILOMETER began awkwardly, became unbalanced and lost ground. After the 1600 Metres, SYLLABUS, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied when awkwardly placed between DR WELL and LUCKSWELL. After the 1400 Metres, SYLLABUS, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, got its head up when being checked away from the heels of LUCKSWELL. NORTHERNER, which was following, was steadied in consequence. From making the turn at the 800 Metres until after the 300 Metres, CLASSIC DELIGHT hung out. Making the Home Turn, CALIFORNIASUNSHINE hung out. At the 250 Metres, NORTHERNER was crowded for room between DR WELL and CLEAN SWEEP which shifted in. In this incident, NORTHERNER made contact with the hindquarters of DR WELL, causing that horse to become unbalanced. Over the concluding stages, NILOMETER shifted in away from LUCKSWELL and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS. C Munce (MIGHTY HUGO) explained in the early stages the horse hung out and in the middle stages travelled satisfactorily. He said when the tempo quickened at the 700 Metres MIGHTY HUGO failed to respond to his riding and he immediately became concerned with the action of the horse. MIGHTY HUGO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MIGHTY HUGO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at this time there were no significant findings. The performance of MIGHTY HUGO, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MIGHTY HUGO will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DR WELL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DR WELL after the race did not show any significant findings. INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS and SYLLABUS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted CALIFORNIASUNSHINE was bleeding from a cut to the tongue and SYLLABUS had sustained a laceration to the left front cannon. Also following the race, the Veterinary Officer noted CLEAN SWEEP, which had been fractious in the barriers, was bleeding from a cut to the mouth.
