Racing Incident Report
CHAMP DE UNION, which was restless after being boxed, lunged forward as the start was effected and hit the front gates of its stall, causing them to open fractionally before the other gates. CHAMP DE UNION then began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall, causing G Schofield, its rider, to lose the use of his left stirrup which he regained shortly afterwards. On jumping, LORD CAIRNS was checked when crowded for room between JADE DANCER and MANIFEST which shifted in abruptly. As a consequence, LORD CAIRNS got well back. Also on jumping, HIGHLAND DAWN was crowded for room between SPEED FIGHTER and UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR which began awkwardly and shifted out. SURE FORTUNE was slow to begin. GOOD TO GREAT made the turn at the 1000 Metres awkwardly and shifted out. Also making the turn at the 1000 Metres, FUJIAN PRINCE got its head on the side, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of GOOD TO GREAT. After the 1000 Metres, UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR was steadied when awkwardly placed between JADE DANCER and SURE FORTUNE and close to the heels of TROPHY. At the 800 Metres, TROPHY, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied when racing close to the heels of CHAMP DE UNION. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, LORD CAIRNS hung out and was steadied away from the heels of HIGHLAND DAWN. In the middle stages, FUJIAN PRINCE proved difficult to settle. In the early part of the Straight, JADE DANCER hung in, then when being shifted out near the 200 Metres was steadied to avoid the heels of GOOD TO GREAT. From before the 200 Metres until near the 100 Metres, SURE FORTUNE, which was hanging in, was held up and unable to improve when racing close to the heels of MANIFEST. At the 100 Metres, TROPHY, which was giving ground, bumped the hindquarters of CHAMP DE UNION. Over the final 50 Metres, LORD CAIRNS, which had been closing the race off nicely, was not ridden out when unable to continue improving between MANIFEST and SURE FORTUNE. As a result of this, LORD CAIRNS was not properly tested. Throughout the race, DR POSSI raced wide and without cover. HIGHLAND DAWN and TROPHY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HIGHLAND DAWN and TROPHY after the race did not show any significant findings. SPEED FIGHTER and DR POSSI were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 22 December 2005)
HIGHLAND DAWN, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. HIGHLAND DAWN was reported to be dull and inappetant this morning. Before being allowed to race again, HIGHLAND DAWN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
