Racing Incident Report

As the gates opened, BLISS STAR reared high in the gates with its head making heavy contact with the top partition of the barriers. On jumping, SPACE SHUTTLE was bumped between KEEN FLYER and GAUCHO, both of which shifted ground. Also on jumping, LUCKY STRAVINSKY was bumped by GREEN WARRIOR which shifted out. At the 600 Metres, COMPANION became unbalanced when crowded for room between BLUE GENES and GREEN WARRIOR which was racing tight outside ADAIKALI. Shortly after this, GREEN WARRIOR was steadied and shifted to the inside of ADAIKALI. After the 400 Metres, KAISER'S PRIZE got its head on the side, hung out and shifted ground towards the outside. After this, KAISER'S PRIZE continued to hang out and proved difficult to ride, then after the 200 Metres had some difficulty obtaining clear running and was shifted to the inside of GAUCHO to continue going forward. Y T Cheng (GREEN WARRIOR), first placegetter, was advised against making over-exuberant celebratory gestures prior to the winning post. C Munce (ALWAYS WELCOME) said he had anticipated GAUCHO which had drawn to his inside would be one of the leaders and it was intended for him to have a trail behind that horse. He said ALWAYS WELCOME began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, resulting in him becoming unbalanced. He said GAUCHO then proceeded forward of him and he allowed that horse to cross to the outside fence. He said when GAUCHO crossed to the fence, it was carried outwards and steadied away from the heels of KEEN FLYER and as a consequence he at that time steadied away from GAUCHO's heels. He said after this GAUCHO did not continue on as he had hoped and he therefore had some difficulty obtaining clear running, however, when in the clear near the 200 Metres he rode ALWAYS WELCOME along, the horse got its head on the side, commenced to hang out and did not finish the race off as he would have liked. BLISS STAR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, BLISS STAR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had blood present at both nostrils as a result of an abrasion to the nasal area and an endoscopic examination confirmed the blood was not present in the trachea. As such, BLISS STAR was deemed not to have bled. Before being allowed to race again, BLISS STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ADAIKALI, GREEN WARRIOR and GROOM RAIDER were sent for sampling.
