Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, it was noted AMBITIOUS MARJU had blood present at its mouth. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said the blood had originated from a small wound to the tongue and in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. KORSAKOV was slow to begin. AMBITIOUS MARJU was slow to begin and shortly afterwards lost further ground when bumped by KUNG FU which shifted in after itself being bumped by KINGSTON MARBLE which began awkwardly and shifted in. On jumping, AMERICAN VICTORY and TREASURE COLT bumped. After the 400 Metres, SUPREME CLASS commenced to hang out, shifted ground and made contact with KUNG FU near the 300 Metres. KUNG FU then shifted in and bumped SUPREME CLASS. Near the 300 Metres, AMERICAN VICTORY was steadied away from the heels of TREASURE COLT which shifted in. When questioned, G Schofield (WHIPLASH) said the horse had not begun well at its first barrier trial which was without a visor. He said at a subsequent trial when wearing that piece of equipment showed better speed. He said tonight WHIPLASH which was having its first race start was not fitted with a visor, began fairly and in his opinion as the going towards the outside would be superior, he intended to let SUPER MARKSMAN go forward of him and cross behind that horse to get towards the outside. He said however SUPER MARKSMAN did not show enough speed to clear him, he therefore continued racing outside that horse. He said at the 400 Metres he commenced to ride WHIPLASH along hands and heels, however, the horse did not quicken and only kept on one-paced. He said because of this he continued to ride WHIPLASH hands and heels in the run to the line and did not pull the whip on the horse. When questioned, O Doleuze (KUNG FU), which was having its first race start tonight, explained after the 600 Metres he was following KINGSTON MARBLE which in his opinion seemed to be travelling only fairly. He said there appeared to be the opportunity to improve on both the inside and the outside of KINGSTON MARBLE and he elected to go to the inside as when riding KUNG FU in track work, it had been somewhat green and he felt it might not appreciate improving against the rail. He said he had clear running on the inside of KINGSTON MARBLE until such time as SUPREME CLASS shifted out near the 200 Metres and bumped him. O Doleuze was told his explanation would be reported. When questioned regarding the poor performance of TREASURE COLT, Apprentice H W Lai said throughout the race on a number of occasions the horse changed strides, became unbalanced and at no stage felt comfortable. Mr C H Yip, trainer of TREASURE COLT, was unable to explain the poor performance of the horse. He said following its last run TREASURE COLT had missed some track work as a result of soreness in its right hind leg. He said after this soreness had subsided TREASURE COLT had worked well and pleased him with its barrier trial performance on 6 December 2005. He said because of this performance he had given TREASURE COLT a good chance in tonight's race. Mr Yip said it may be that TREASURE COLT will now be better suited racing over distances further than the 1000 Metres of tonight's race, however, he will wait until he sees how the horse pulls up before deciding its future programme. In the circumstances, the Stewards believe the performance of TREASURE COLT to be unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TREASURE COLT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TREASURE COLT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TREASURE COLT after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPREME CLASS, KINGSTON MARBLE and KUNG FU were sent for sampling. After the race, TELECOM WIN WIN was noted to be making an abnormal breathing noise and as such was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to be a "roarer".
