Racing Incident Report
KING OF SPADES and ORIENTAL were slow to begin. SOLDIER ON began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of FANTASTIC WIN which shifted in. On jumping, SPARKLE and G-ONE LEADING made contact. From the outside gate, with the intention of being ridden quietly, OH GREAT was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners. FREEBIRD made the turn after the 1200 Metres awkwardly and got its head up. Near the 800 Metres, AWARD was hampered and carried wider by ORIENTAL which at this time shifted to the outside of G-ONE LEADING. On straightening, SPARKLE was bumped by G-ONE LEADING which at this time was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DOUBLE HAPPINESS. At the 250 Metres, DOUBLE HAPPINESS was bumped by RIGHT CHOICE which shifted to the outside of FREEBIRD into clear running. At the 200 Metres, G-ONE LEADING got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of DOUBLE HAPPINESS which was giving ground. Near the 100 Metres, AWARD got its head on the side and shifted in. Because of this, C Soumillon stopped riding and straightened his mount. Just prior to the winning post, RIGHT CHOICE and SPARKLE raced tight as a result of SPARKLE being carried out by FREEBIRD which shifted out slightly. In this incident, Y T Cheng, the rider of SPARKLE, had his whip momentarily entangled in the tail of RIGHT CHOICE. Also just prior to the winning post, ORIENTAL got its head on the side, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of RIGHT CHOICE. Because of this, ORIENTAL was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Throughout the race, FANTASTIC WIN raced wide and without cover. Y Take (KING OF SPADES) explained he rode his mount with the whip in the early part of the Straight and it responded well. He said near the 100 Metres KING OF SPADES hung in, he therefore put the whip away and rode his mount out hands and heels in the run to the line. SPARKLE and RIGHT CHOICE were sent for sampling.
