Racing Incident Report
EXCELLENT BOY was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever). Before being allowed to race again, EXCELLENT BOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the start, ISLAND SPIRIT, which was racing tight inside QI'S PET, was steadied away from the heels of THE ONLY ONE. In the early stages, BUDDIES POWER proved difficult to settle. Near the 500 Metres, CHERISHED became unbalanced when bumped by DESERT STRIKE. Shortly after straightening, DESERT STRIKE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHINOOK, then when being ridden out DESERT STRIKE hung in. Apprentice P H Lo (FIRST KNIGHT) explained despite the horse having drawn the inside barrier he was instructed to remain on the fence but to ride it at the back. He said because of this he did not endeavour to have FIRST KNIGHT jump away, the horse got its head up and dropped immediately to the rear. QI'S PET, DESERT STRIKE and SOUND OF SILENCE were sent for sampling.
