Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, AGILITY began awkwardly and lost ground. RIVER ESPERANTO was slow to begin. On jumping LEILATI became unbalanced after being bumped by WILLIE DETROY which shifted in after being bumped by BEETHOVEN. At the 1400 Metres, WEALTHY became unbalanced and lost its position when momentarily crowded for room between PALETTE NATURAL and LEILATI which had been momentarily carried inwards by WILLIE DETROY. No action was taken. Near the 1000 Metres, SUMMERLAND raced tight inside LUCKSWELL which itself was steadied when crowded for room inside WILLIE DETROY (F Coetzee) which shifted in when not properly clear. F Coetzee was advised to exercise more care. Near the 900 Metres, LIBERAL'S CHOICE was hampered by VERY FIT (Y T Cheng) which after being crossed by BEETHOVEN attempted to shift out from behind that horse as it steadied the tempo in front. In this incident, LIBERAL'S CHOICE became unbalanced when being ridden to hold its line, causing VERY FIT to be carried back in behind BEETHOVEN. Y T Cheng was severely reprimanded and told his riding on this occasion bordered on placing him in breach of a serious Rule. Approaching the 600 Metres, RIVER ESPERANTO, which was racing tight inside PALETTE NATURAL, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LIGHTNING STAR. On straightening, VERY FIT, which was endeavouring to shift out from behind BEETHOVEN, was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of LIBERAL'S CHOICE. At the 400 Metres, RIVER ESPERANTO was checked to avoid the heels of SUMMERLAND which was giving ground. After this, RIVER ESPERANTO had difficulty obtaining clear running and near the 300 Metres was checked and shifted in to avoid the heels of LUCKSWELL which was giving ground. After this, RIVER ESPERANTO continued to have difficulty obtaining clear running and as a result was not properly tested. For some distance after the 400 Metres, CHEEKY was held up and unable to improve when not able to obtain clear running between LEILATI and WEALTHY. Over the concluding stages, WILLIE DETROY shifted wider on the track. Throughout the race, WILLIE DETROY raced wide and without cover. After passing the winning post, SUMMERLAND, which tailed out, collapsed. AGILITY, WILLIE DETROY and WEALTHY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported RIVER ESPERANTO had returned bleeding from the mouth as a result of a cut to the tongue.
